Take Action: The Williams NESE Pipeline
The Williams NESE pipeline is a proposed pipeline that would transport natural gas, obtained from fracking, throughout Pennysylvania, New Jersey, and New York. The pipeline would contribute to climate change by transporting, greenhouse gas- rich fuel throughout the Northeast. Additionally, fracking is environmentally destructive, water intensive, and difficult to remediate.
The pipeline would cut through New York Harbor which is home to endangered species including Kemp Ridley Sea Turtles, North Atlantic Right Whales, Atlantic Sturgeon and many more. These species will grow more vulnerable when exposed to the pollutants that result from the instrusive construction plans. Pollutants such as DDT, lead, PCBs will be uplifted from the seafloor and enter the water column, threatening the health of marine organisms and those that consume local seafood, though the extent to which human health will be impacted has not been thoroughly examined.
Local nonprofits have banded together to encourage New York State’s Governor Hochul to reject this project and ensure her constituents and the surrounding environment, is protected. The Williams NESE pipeline has been rejected in the past, and we must continue to fight the advancement of these plans to ensure New York Harbor remains a healthy environment for protected species.
