Conversations in Conservation: National Marine Sanctuaries
Join us as we focus on conservation wins. National Marine Sanctuaries are highly protected Marine Protected Areas that are designated at the federal level. This night focuses on protected the solutions already in place and empowering one another to continue advocating for a healthier future for our oceans.
We will begin my spotlighting our parter organizations who do incredible work in the field. Thank you to Citizens Campaign for the Environment, Restore America's Estuaries, FutureSwell, Wildlife Conservation Society and Columbia University Biodiversity Club for joining us and helping connect people who want to make a difference with the tools they need.
We will then hear from our expert panelists:
Carissa Cabrera- CEO and Founder of FutureSwell
Noah Chesnin- Director of Policy and Outreach, Wildlife Conservation Society New York Seascape Program
Cait Clemmer- National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Community Engagement Specialist
We will then conclude with an action item from the Impact for Oceans team. We will express our appreciation for the Office of National Marine Sanctuaries and encourage our representatives to protect funding for this critical work.
January Action Hour
Join us in person or online at Pier 57 in NYC to learn about the proposed offshore drilling plan, that threatens marine life along the Gulf of Mexico, coast of Alaska, and coast of California. The Administration is looking to expand drilling sites, many of which are adjacent to protected waters.
We will learn about the history of drilling in these areas, what is being proposed, how impacted communities are reacting, and what will happen to marine ecosystems should this plan pass. Then, we will customize a ready-made public comment template to speak up for our oceans.
Gulf of California Biodiversity Lecture & Action Hour
